High Water Markers of Jackson’s Observee, by Jackson Badgenoone
Jackson Badgenoone observed the lives of several souls, the first among them was a man named Frederick. His best friend Joseph was an ancestor of a latter day Frederick observed by Elizabeth Badgenoone in her novel. This eighteenth century Frederick was just a young boy when Jackson first began to take notice of him. At the time of her initial observation, Frederick was at play with his best friends, Joseph and Johannes, in a peaceful German town. Within a few years the boys were in uniform and headed for the British colonies in America.
Frederick was really a farmer at heart. He saw the miracle of life in every new seedling. His life took a dramatic turn after he witnessed the execution of a close comrade. From that moment, he repudiated war. In time he shed the uniform of a mercenary. Some called him a traitor, others thought of him as a patriot.
His story captures the drama of his times. It also provides conflict resolution strategies that sustained him during his journey. In the autumn of his life he received a word of encouragement from his childhood buddy. The message came from across the sea that they had sailed together so many years ago.
