What was a high water marker that you observed during the seasons of your lifetime? Novels aren’t the only place where written treasures are hidden in the narrative. Some are revealed in the chapters of a novella, the paragraphs of a short story, or the flow of a poem. My walking buddies and I decided to make a range of written material available to other hikers who frequent the Buffalo Creek Preserve and Trail. The story posted this month in the Trail Tales column of the Senior Savvy Rowan County Edition was written by Amy Bergeron, Titled, "Storybook Lightning", it was originally posted in the May edition of the Cabarrus County Senior Savvy. More information about Amy can be found at the May 2017 blog. To request a sample of Amy’s poems send an email to her at [email protected]. The story posted this month in the Cabarrus County Edition was written by James Polk. Titled, "From The Shadows", it represents a departure from others stories shared by James. About James Polk. A distant relative to the eleventh President of the United States, James is a prolific writer. More about his biography is available at the Senior Savvy News.
Thousands are celebrating Memorial Day weekend at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Just down the road, artists, performers, fellow authors, and patrons of the arts started their celebration with a breakfast sponsored by the Cabarrus Arts Council. Others are hiking a mountain trail or watching ocean waves. Let's take a moment to honor the brave men and women in uniform and their families who make these pastimes possible. The Hidden Treasure of Dutch Buffalo Creek considers their sacrifice. Learn more at www.hiddentreasurenovels.com.
Welcome back to the Hidden Treasures blog. The Hidden Treasure of Dutch Buffalo Creek set the stage for subsequent manuscript production. Writing the next novel consumes most of my energy. Unfortunately only a few hours are available for the blog at this time. Thanks to all the readers who cast a vote to help me prioritize the sequence of publication. Last week all the buzz was about two football teams and a halftime show. Then political debates captured our attention. Citizens of ancient Rome might have relished the events. The Hidden Treasure of Dutch Buffalo Creek connects some of the dots between the Roman Empire and the current state of western civilization. Up until this year, Roman visitors to the stadium would have recognized the numbering of the game. You can learn more about that at http://tinyurl.com/jp6otom . Romans would have cheered at the political blood sport. The dots begin to form a straight line in my debut novel. During an interview in December, I reveal the structure of the book. The book launch signing for The Hidden Treasure of Dutch Buffalo Creek will be hosted at the White Owl Antiques Mall on September 19-20, 2015 in Mount Pleasant, North Carolina. Over 10,000 people are expected to attend the White Owl Fest during those two days. Many will appreciate the impact of artifacts on the telling of a story. Do you have a letter, magazine, book, or other artifact that would trigger the telling of your story? Books, magazines, VCR tapes, DVDs, Record albums, Cassette recordings, paintings, artifacts; there are so many memories that crowd into the den overlooking the creek. They help to tell the story that unfolds in The Hidden Treasure of Dutch Buffalo Creek .
