March Madness

I had originally reserved the title and this space for a discussion about sports and links to the Roman Empire. Instead, today events intervened.

A sad moment once again intrudes on the peace of the day. My thoughts and prayers go out to my family and friends in Belgium. Little Belgium, the battle ground of Europe, sustained another blow in the conflict between ideologies. Notice I didn't say conflict between cultures.

A walking cane from Belgium appears on the cover of The Hidden Treasure of Dutch Buffalo Creek . It serves as a reminder of the paths that bring people together. In the story, a bayonet from the battle of Waterloo represents the forces that tear us apart.
